How it works

What this take-home pay calculator includes

Start with gross pay and select the UK tax region that applies to you. The calculator estimates Income Tax and employee National Insurance, then includes pension contributions, student-loan repayments, bonuses and other deductions when you add them.

Hourly, daily, weekly and monthly pay are converted to an annual estimate using your working-pattern assumptions. Results are then shown annually and monthly so you can compare gross pay, deductions and estimated net pay.

Understanding your result

Why your payslip may be different

The result is an annualised illustration rather than a payroll calculation. Your actual payslip can differ because of your tax code, National Insurance category, benefits, payroll timing, irregular bonuses, previous pay in the tax year or adjustments made by HMRC.

Scottish Income Tax bands differ from those used in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. National Insurance and student loans also use their own thresholds, so deductions do not all change at the same point.

Assumptions and limitations

Use the estimate as a starting point

The calculator supports its listed tax years and assumes standard employee treatment. It does not reproduce every tax code, payroll correction, benefit-in-kind, director National Insurance method or unusual pay pattern. It is not a substitute for a payslip, HMRC calculation or personalised tax advice.

Check important figures against your payslip and current official guidance, particularly after a change in job, tax code, pension arrangement or student-loan status.

Official information

Built from published UK rules

The calculator stores tax-year assumptions in versioned configuration files. Review the sources and methodology, or check the current Income Tax rates and Personal Allowances, National Insurance rates and student-loan repayment guidance on GOV.UK.
